Why I dig My Hostile NMS Home Planet I never thought my favorite base, my home, would be on a highly radioactive, stormy, gravity inverted jungle planet, but yeah, it happened. I fell in love with the place. I originally picked it randomly, to complete all the miniquests of the scientist, horticulture farmer, armorer, etc., and I just kept getting pulled back there and tweaking it. I challenged myself and pushed the base boundaries far enough to encase a mineral hotspot on top of a terrible mountain, then connected it with short-range teleporters back to the base. I think I can step outside safely once out of every eight times I try. The other times I get blasted with radiation and/or sucked up into a whirlwind vortex and plopped two or three hundred units away. But it's home. UPDATE: After I typed this, I was on this base and two little girls sitting near me, at this cafe, started watching me play and asked me question. I moved the screen so they had a better view, let their parents know that I’m playing an exploration game and not a violent one -- they were okay with it and interested in the game themselves -- and after a few moments, I turned back to the game, and I had been plucked up into a vortex. “Why is your head like that?,” the youngest asked. “I’m a robot,” I replied. “Why is the screen colored like that?,” asked the oldest. “Because the atmosphere is toxic and it got a lot of gunk on the camera lens, similar to what happens here in North Carolina right now during pollen season.” Fun conversations! 🙂 The video is what happened when I wasn't looking, and the end is me trying and mostly failing to get back into my base. I was at the outer door to the airlock and jetpacking like CRAZY to get back in there. I finally achieved it, but I was spent.
