Which singers ruled the charts, year by year? Watch 68 years of Billboard Hot 100 history race across the screen — from Elvis and The Beatles to Taylor Swift and beyond.
Every week from 1958 to 2026, Billboard ranked the 100 hottest songs in America. This video turns all of that into one race: each artist's career points from every chart hit, decaying over time, battling for the #1 spot. See the British Invasion sweep the board, disco's rise, the MTV era, hip-hop's takeover, and the streaming wars — all in 15 minutes.
📊 METHODOLOGY
Each song earns points based on its weekly chart position (higher position = more points). Points decay with a 30-year half-life, so legacy hits fade as new eras rise — this is a career-impact ranking, not all-time sales. Data: Billboard Hot 100 weekly charts, 1958–2026.
