Floodwater has been diverted into the bed of the abandoned Old Mailsi Canal (OMC), which off-takes from Islam Headworks. About 144 recharge wells have been constructed in the bed of the OMC. During the 2025 flood season, approximately 12,000 acre-feet of floodwater was diverted and stored through engineered ponding, canal-bed rehabilitation, and recharge wells.
