A British Rescue Diver Vanished in Tennessee — An American Went In After Him

British cave diver Josh Bratchley had helped rescue the youth football team trapped inside Thailand’s Tham Luang cave. Less than a year later, he disappeared inside a flooded cave in Tennessee—and became the person waiting to be rescued. Trapped beyond narrow underwater passages with a broken route to the surface, Josh found an air pocket and waited. His British teammates searched first, while American volunteers and specialist rescue divers began travelling toward Mill Pond Cave. Then Edd Sorenson arrived from Florida. The American cave rescuer had never met Josh, but he knew his reputation. More than a day after the British diver disappeared, Sorenson entered the cold, silty water to find him. This true story is about two expert divers from opposite sides of the Atlantic, the volunteers who answered an overnight emergency call and the stranger who went into the darkness because another man had not come home.
