We Found a DESERT in Canada?! | Alaska Highway RV Trip We’re officially heading south on the legendary Alaska Highway! In this episode of our Class B RV adventure, we get blasted by glacial dust storms, walk across the "World's Smallest Desert" in the Yukon, and soak in the raw, natural Liard River Hot Springs—which is surrounded by a massive electric fence to keep out 600-pound grizzly bears! But Canada's North delivered so much more than just a desert. We are taking you to the neon waters of Emerald Lake, visiting the 80,000-signs Watson Lake Sign Post Forest, and dodging massive Wood Bison and black bears right on the highway. This is unfiltered van life on one of the wildest road trips in the world! =============================== 🔹 EXACT LOGISTICS & VISITOR GUIDE ▫️ Carcross Desert & Emerald Lake: Both are completely free to visit and located just off the Klondike Highway. The desert is actually a series of ancient glacial sand dunes, and Emerald Lake gets its neon green color from a natural layer of glacial marl! ▫️ Watson Lake Sign Post Forest: Free to enter! Bring your own license plate or sign to leave your mark among the 80,000+ others. There are absolutely no strict rules about what you can post, as long as it’s safe and respectful. ▫️ Liard River Hot Springs: Day-use fees are around $5-$10 CAD. The water ranges from 108°F to a blistering 126°F at the source. If you book a site at the provincial park campground, access to the springs is included (and you get 24-hour access!). Note: Dogs are NOT allowed on the boardwalk or in the springs area. =============================== 🔹 ALASKA HIGHWAY TRAVEL TIPS ▫️ Glacial Dust (Loess): High winds in places like Kluane National Park can whip up massive, blinding dust storms made of crushed glacial rock. Be prepared for zero visibility at times! ▫️ Wildlife Viewing: The stretch of road through Northern BC is like a real-life safari. Keep your cameras ready on the dash—we saw Wood Bison, black bears, Dall sheep, and feral horses. ▫️ Bear Safety: Liard Hot Springs is surrounded by a massive electric fence for a reason.
