An Indian Express investigative report has raised serious questions about the functioning of the Election Commission. More than 13 crore names were removed from draft electoral rolls during SIR. Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi reportedly objected 14 times in 10 months to decisions taken without their knowledge. The report also raised concerns over voter-list software being centralised in Delhi, the lack of an audit of ECINET, and questions over who authorised voter deletion appeals in Bengal. In Goa, 97 eligible voters reportedly could not be added because the software did not allow the decision to be recorded. The report also says the full Commission did not meet even once from May to August. Will the President or the Chief Justice of India take cognisance of the investigation?
