Buying property in Spain? You can love the house, know the area from holidays, and still miss things that will affect your life there every day. A supermarket looks close on the map. But can you actually walk there comfortably? A school is “ten minutes away.” But how long does the journey take when everyone arrives for the morning drop-off? The terrace looks perfect in summer. What is it like in winter? In this video, I explain five checks to make before you decide on a home, using examples from life and my work in real estate on the Costa Blanca: • Location and everyday freedom — walking routes, car dependence, school runs and the journeys you will actually make. • Comfort throughout the year — heating, insulation, electricity bills and wind exposure. • Your plans for the property — what to verify before assuming you can add a pool, convert a garage or make other changes. • Ownership costs and responsibilities — maintaining a house, garden and pool, or sharing costs in an apartment community. • The surroundings beyond your viewing — noise, parking and privacy at different times of day and in different seasons. A quiet house outside town can be exactly what you want. So can an apartment close to everything. The important thing is understanding what each choice will mean once you move in.
