The Elizabethan was a daily non-stop summer only service started in 1953, between Kings Cross & Edinburgh. It made the 393-mile journey in 6 hours 30 minutes, with an average speed of 60 mph (97 km/h). At the time this was the longest scheduled non-stop railway journey in the world. The film was produced by Edgar Anstey & British Transport films in 1954.
