Vintage ROBAT Review | A Collector’s Guide to Vintage 1980’s Select Convertors Avarians

Join M as he reviews his vintage Select Convertors Avarians Robat figure which was manufactured in 1984. For anyone not familiar with Convertors, much like the more popular GoBots and Transformers they were a line of toys from the 80’s that transformed from vehicles, insects or animals into robots. Given how the transforming robot scene has changed in the last 10 years with all of the 3rd party companies on the market, you could say that these Select Convertors were 80’s 3rd party transforming robots since they are not KOs of GoBots or of G1 Transformers. These figures were all original designs that were licensed under the Select Convertors branding. In the case of Select Convertors, the rival factions were the Defenders along with their allies, the Avarians and the Maladroids along with their allies the Insectors. As the names suggest, the Defenders were the good guys and the Maladroids were the bad guys. The Convertors never had a cartoon or comic book to help launch the toys which is unfortunate because there are some really cool designs here that seem to have been forgotten by collectors due to the passage of time and the perception that they are KO figures. Hopefully we can help change all that with today’s review.
