This solo overlanding adventure takes me deep into Idaho's backcountry near Leadore, Idaho. Where I explore remote public lands with my Toyota 4Runner and small off-road camper. Along the way I experience unexpected July snow, mountain hiking, dispersed camping, breathtaking scenery, muddy backroads, and even find a massive elk antler.
What started as another overlanding and camping trip quickly turned into something I never expected.
Deep in Idaho's backcountry is the most breathtaking mountain scenery I've ever seen, and pushed toward an 11,000-foot summit... until a powerful cold front rolled in.
Snow.
In July.
Within minutes, rain turned into a complete snowy whiteout. The trail vanished, visibility dropped, and I was forced to turn around before reaching the summit.
The adventure wasn't over.
On the way back, heavy rain turned the remote public land roads into thick Idaho mud, nearly trapping my 4Runner and camper miles from the nearest pavement.
This is why I love exploring.
No schedules.
No crowds.
Just the unknown.
If you enjoy solo camping, overlanding, hiking, off-road adventures, wilderness exploration, and discovering hidden places across America's public lands, you're in the right place.
