Parakh (1960) | The Hidden Gem of Indian Cinema You Need to See!

Watch Parakh (1960), Bimal Roy's witty and charming satire on democracy in a young India, starring Sadhana, Motilal, Nazir Hussain, Durga Khote, Leela Chitnis and Basanta Choudhury. When the village postmaster Nivaran receives a mysterious cheque for ₹5 lakh, to be given to whoever will use it for the good of the village, the whole village turns upside down. The landlord, the pandit, the moneylender and the vaidji all suddenly become generous public servants, each trying to prove he deserves the money. When they decide to settle it through an election, the fun really begins. Meanwhile, the postmaster's daughter Seema (Sadhana) has her heart set on the honest schoolmaster Rajat, until a glamorous visitor from the city arrives. Salil Chowdhury wrote both the story and the music. The film features Lata Mangeshkar's timeless O Sajana Barkha Bahar Aai, with lyrics and dialogue by Shailendra.
