Carlo Ancelotti Saw This Coming. Nobody Listened.

Carlo Ancelotti and José Mourinho. Real Madrid won at the Camp Nou, ended Barcelona’s perfect start and cut the gap to three points, with a coach most of football had written off as a relic. Most people called it a shock. But five months earlier, while pundits laughed at the idea of Mourinho returning to the Bernabéu, Carlo Ancelotti said his old friend could do “a fantastic job”. Ancelotti saw this coming, and nobody listened. In this video, we tell the story of why Ancelotti was right. We start in May 2026, with Real Madrid in crisis and Ancelotti not only backing his friend but diagnosing the problem: the club had lost an entire generation of leaders. Then we look at why nobody believed him after a decade of sackings, and how Mourinho’s unbeaten league season at Benfica went almost unnoticed. We go through twenty years of mutual respect between the two coaches, including the time Ancelotti got it wrong in 2015, and how he doubled down on Mourinho when Madrid were losing to Betis and Atlético. Finally, we explain the three things Ancelotti understood that everyone else missed: the diagnosis, the man and the club. Real Madrid haven’t won anything yet, but the title race is alive again.
