STOP USING HARDIEBACKER ON TILE FLOORS!!! THIS IS SO MUCH EASIER: LATICRETE STRATA_MAT

We used to install cement board, Wonderboard, or Hardiebacker on wood floors before laying tile. This was the common practice for prepping a floor for tile work. But in the early 2000's, a product called Schluter Ditra came out and changed the game. Ditra, Strata_Mat, and other uncoupling membranes are a replacement for Hardiebacker and other cement board underlayments for tile. Uncoupling membranes are lighter, faster, and easier to install than cement board or Hardiebacker. They also perform better, as they uncouple (separate) the tile system from the sub floor, making it the tile floor less likely to crack when there is stresses below it.
