The rain clinging to each surface, Reflecting shards of light into an autominal skyscape. Brilliant white and sharp as glass. Making mirrors of the upturned faces of decaying leaves. Trampled beneath unthinking foot, Making a memory. Wandering along well trodden pathways Of the long dead and nearly forgotten. Prizing out stories from a hidden past. The autumn winds unwrap the trees, Shedding their leaves and exposing their sources. Forces of nature stretching a landscape into a bloodline 'Til Father Time unwinds to a stop Revealing his secrets. Clawing at the dirt of a frost hardened pathway. Deep within the country of memory lane. Clinging to branches whilst tumbling downwards. Just scratching the surface of my waterlogged brain. Diving in deep till I float back to the surface. Desperate to unearth that one tiny acorn. The genesis of my here and my now. The root of creation. © Peter Routley 2026
