In 1932 the founder of the Targa Florio, Vincenzo Florio changed the route significantly by shortening the previous track course originally created by Piccola Madonie .
The new route begins with the first stage in Cerda in the west, past the 500 meter high Caltavuturo in the south into the valley in which runs a highway today, over 600 meters high mountain roads in a hairpin through Collesano in the east, down to Campofelice di Roccella , from where the cars drove on the Buonfornello straight along the sea.
Each lap had 72 km of road and was completed eight times, the vehicles were started individually in 20-second increments. With few exceptions, this route was raced until 1977 , when the last Targa organized, took place.
1932 was won by Tazio Nuvolari significantly; He led from the start to the race and won by a margin of six minutes of his teammate Baconin Borzacchini .
The round at the average speed of 79 km / hr was a record held for 20 years.
Only Felice Bonetto surpassed this in a Lancia Aurelia B20 in 1952.
