Nadia's Shantipur. Once this village was a center of knowledge, but what was more than that was a stream of deep love and devotion. The source of that stream was Shri Advaitacharya.
Back then. A young boy from Sylhet, named Kamalaksh. He had a great attraction for knowledge. In search of knowledge, he came to Shantipur. Coming here, he immersed himself in the depths of Smriti, Nyaya, and Vedas. He engaged in severe penance, sadhana, and studies day and night. Due to his sadhana, he got the title of 'Advaitacharya'. But he had a deep pain in his heart. The sufferings of this mortal world tormented him. So, he started severe penance to gain the grace of God.
One day, a miracle happened in his meditation area. While he was sitting in this meditation area and worshipping God, he heard a divine voice, which indicated the arrival of God. But how? Then he started praying to God with Tulsi and Ganga water. Pleased with his deep desire and penance, Maha Vishnu ordered his pregnant mother Sachimata in a dream. Advaitacharya gave that Tulsi and Ganga water to Sachimata. And taking that Tulsi, a new life came into the womb of Sachimata—our Gaurangasundar! From that day on, this place became even more holy, it became Advaita Jatta.
Later, when Gauranga was going towards Puri for sannyasa, Mother Sachi wanted to meet him. To fulfill the wish of the devotee, she changed her route and came to this Advaita Pat. She stayed here for ten days, eating the food cooked by her mother. At that time, Advaitacharya used to sit here with his beloved Gauranga and discuss the Bhagavad Gita and other scriptures. It was here that Sri Chaitanya received the title of Vidyasagar from his guru Advaitacharya. Not only that, he also gave initiation to Haridas Thakur here.
It was here that the great union of Sri Chaitanya, Nityananda and Advaita took place. This union was an extraordinary experience for the devotees. Even today, when you come to this place, you can feel the touch of the footsteps of those three great men. The temple that can be seen now was built in 1942, but the glory of that ancient place of worship is still intact. Every year, the advent of Shri Advaitacharya is celebrated on the seventh day of the bright fortnight of the month of Magh.
The Babla Advaita Pat is not just a temple, it is an epic poem that touches the hearts of devotees throughout the ages. Every stone here, every Tulsi tree still speaks of the day when a great stream of devotion, knowledge and love sanctified the soil of this Shantipur.
