Ardvreck Castle – a stop we never expected to love quite this much! 🏰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 It may not look like much at first glance, but Ardvreck Castle on the NC500 completely captivated the Joneses. After leaving Durness and heading south towards Ullapool, we stopped at this incredible little spot beside Loch Assynt. And what was meant to be a quick stop turned into well over two hours of pure peace, tranquillity and exploring. We were blessed with absolutely gorgeous weather in August 2026 — and we'll happily take that! ☀️ Scotland just keeps delivering. There was something incredibly calming about this place. The ruins, the loch, the mountains, the silence… and an almost endless supply of perfectly shaped stones for skimming across the water! 😂 It was one of those unexpected moments on our NC500 adventure where you stop, slow down and simply enjoy where you are. Magical. Peaceful. Captivating.
