He was Al Capone's bodyguard. Capone named him "Joe Batters" for what he could do with a baseball bat. And for the next half century, Tony Accardo ran or controlled the Chicago Outfit through more than 30 arrests, four federal indictments, and three U.S. Senate committees — without ever being successfully imprisoned. Capone lasted six years at the top. Accardo lasted forty. This is how he did it. This documentary tells the full story of the most successful crime boss in American history — and the system he built to stay invisible. From the Circus Cafe Gang and the Lexington Hotel lobby, through the death of Frank Nitti and the partnership with Paul Ricca, to the masterstroke of 1957: installing Sam Giancana as a "front boss" to absorb the FBI's heat while the real power stayed hidden behind the chair. It covers the wire service war, the Las Vegas skim, the 172 Fifth Amendment pleas, the overturned tax conviction — and the infamous winter of 1978, when a crew of burglars made the fatal mistake of breaking into Accardo's own house, and as many as ten men tied to the job were found dead. No one was ever charged. Every detail is drawn from the documented record: FBI files, Senate testimony, the Chicago Crime Commission, contemporary reporting, and the accounts of the agents who spent their careers hunting him. Where the legend outruns the evidence, we say so. 🔎 IN THIS VIDEO • Tony Accardo — "Joe Batters," "The Big Tuna," boss of the Chicago Outfit • Al Capone's bodyguard years & the lesson of Capone's fall • Frank Nitti's suicide and Paul Ricca's shadow system • The front-boss system: Sam Giancana and Joey Aiuppa • The wire service war & the Las Vegas casino skim • 172 Fifth Amendment pleas before Robert Kennedy's committee • The 1978 River Forest burglary and the ten dead burglars • The vanishing of houseman Michael Volpe • How Accardo died free, at 86, after 40+ years at the top 📚 SOURCES • FBI files on Anthony Accardo (FBI Vault / FOIA) • William F.
