Copper has been used for roofs, dormers and decorations since around the 1600s. It is still a widely used material, especially on our significant buildings such as castles and churches, as well as for historical properties. Copper rusts and turns green over time - typically after 40-50 years. The recycling of copper is high, as much as 70% of all copper is recycled and only 1/3 is used CO2 for remelting old copper rather than new production. In this film, you see copper from when it comes back for remelting at the factory in Finland until the copper coils, which typically weigh one ton, are packed and sent back to the copper dealers. Copper is also a metal that is easy to work with and easy to recycle.
