But before the nectar appeared, something terrible emerged: हलाहल — Halahala. A devastating poison. And Shiva took it. He did not allow the poison to destroy him — and he did not allow it to destroy the world. He held it at his throat. And so Shiva became: नीलकण्ठ — Neelakantha — the Blue-Throated One. This song takes that ancient story and asks what it can mean in our lives today.
