On August 15th, we geared up to celebrate Independence Day the way riders do—chasing open roads, fresh mountain air, and the scenic beauty of Aamby Valley near Lonavala. But what we ran into was far beyond what we had planned for. What started as a smooth, spirited cruise through the lush Western Ghats quickly turned into pure gridlock. A massive 9 km traffic jam choked the ghats, packing the entire mountain stretch with thousands of vehicles, bikers, and travelers. Crawling bumper-to-bumper, managing a heavy bike in endless clutch-and-brake traffic, and maneuvering through a sea of vehicles was exhausting. But right when the frustration started to peak, the Western Ghats worked their magic. Dense, rolling fog took over the entire route. Visibility dropped to nearly zero, the cool monsoon breeze swept through the misty hills, and suddenly the chaos turned into one of the most atmospheric and breathtaking rides we’ve ever experienced.
