Reading and Northern WCGS: A Winter Chase of the Good Springer

On January 21st, 2024, I completed a Reading and Northern freight chase that I had intended to do for a while, this being the "Good Springer" or West Cressona to Good Spring (WCGS) job. This branch line job is not typically seen here on YouTube, as it tends to have a bit of an elusive schedule for railfans to chase. Therefore, after receiving news that it would be running on the 21st, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to catch it in action, as well as some R&N freight action in the snow. The Good Springer is primarily responsible for servicing Koppy's Propane, which resides just outside of the town of Good Spring, PA at the very end of Reading and Northern's Tremont Branch. As the name implies, Koppy's receives loads of propane from the Reading and Northern and then delivers it via truck to local customers. While this customer was the only one serviced in this video, the Good Springer is also responsible for servicing Sterman Masser Potato Farms, Pennsylvania Agriculture, and Summit Anthracite when necessary. Additionally, on this day the Good Springer had to travel as light power to Port Clinton to pick up their cars for Koppy's, as well as some additional freight for West Cressona. This is not a typical duty for this job, however, it was interesting to see! Motive power for this day was two SD40-2 locomotives #3058 and freshly painted #3064, built in 1978 and 1979 respectively.
