Apache warriors could cross seventy miles of killing desert in a single day — on foot — over ground that broke horses and the men riding them.
This is the story of how they did it: the childhood conditioning runs done with a mouthful of water that could not be swallowed, teaching the body to breathe and endure; the tactic of riding stolen horses to exhaustion and eating them rather than guarding a herd; a memorized map of hidden springs and rock tanks no soldier knew; roasted mescal that fed a war party for weeks; and the strongholds of the Dragoon Mountains and the Sierra Madre they simply dissolved into. It ends with the hardest truth of all — that this system was never beaten in a fair fight. It was worn down by endless pursuit, by numbers, and by the weight of the children they carried, until Geronimo's final surrender at Skeleton Canyon in 1886.
This channel tells the survival, warfare, and raw endurance of the peoples who mastered the harshest lands on Earth — real history, told like a film. New documentary every week.
