This Chinese manufacturer debuted its first UK bus in 2013. Over 13 years, many single and double deck electric BYDs have been produced. The majority of BYD bodied buses can be found in London. Between 2015 and 2024, BYD partnered with ADL to create two main types of electric. ADL bodied Enviro200 MMC EV and Enviro400 City EVs use BYD powertrains. BYD BD11 The most popular and well known BYD bus is the BD11. These double deckers first entered service in December 2024 on TfL route 320. Currently, over 350 BD11s are in use in London across 5 different operators. Go-Ahead London currently run over 180 BD11s. Arriva have the second highest number of BD11s in service, at around 140. Combined, First Bus and Metroline run around 150 BD11s. Uno bus currently use 2 BD11s on route 292. Around 40 London bus routes now use BD11s, with more due to convert. Routes that use BD11s include the 7, 16, 18, 31, 34, 60, 90, 98, 101, 104, 106, 129, 141, 171, 188, 194, 210, 292, 320, 321, 353, 405, 412, 466, 473, 675, 685, N18, N31, N118, N171, W7 and W8. Superloop express routes SL1, SL2, SL4, SL5 and SL7 also use BD11s. Outside of London, Arriva Northumbria received new regional specification BD11s in 2026. Second Generation BD11s Second generation buses entered service in 2026, 2 years after the first BD11. These feature an updated front and rear design. Including an enlarged rear display, able to show the destination and route number. The majority of BD11s currently used are pre-facelift examples. However, hundreds of second generation BD11s are due to enter service. New BD11 Variants BYD have announced new variants of the BD11 design. The BD11A is a low-height variant of the standard BD11. These buses are purpose built for non-TfL/regional operators in the UK. This means that most BD11As are likely to be single door buses. Currently, single door BD11s are rare, and can only be found on one TfL route - the SL7. The BYD BD11B is a standard-height double decker, meant for urban/TfL routes. Both BYD BD11 variants share similar designs. Route 209 The 209 runs between Hammersmith and Barnes Pond, in southwest London. The route was recently changed to replace the 533, which was withdrawn. The 209 links areas in Chiswick with Hammersmith and Barnes. It also provides useful links in the Castelnau and Barnes area. The 209 serves Hammersmith Bus Station, Hammersmith Bridge North Side, Great West Road, Hogarth Roundabout, Burlington Lane, Alexandra Gardens, Chiswick, Chertsey Road, Chiswick Bridge, Clifford Avenue, Richmond Road, Mortlake Green, Mortlake Station, Mortlake High Street, Avondale Road, Barnes Bridge Station, Lonsdale Road Hail & Ride, Swedish School London, Castelnau (Hammersmith Bridge South), Barnes Red Lion, Church Road and Barnes Pond. The 209 runs around every 15 minutes, on all days of the week. Buses run from 04:55 until 00:55. Route 329 has been terminating at Wood Green for several months. This route usually runs between Enfield and Turnpike Lane. Buses were expected to return to Turnpike Lane around the 1st of November. However, all buses are still curtailing to Wood Green. The 329 is currently converting to hybrid operation. The route now uses ADL Enviro400 City Hybrids. These buses were used on the Superloop SL1 and SL2. Gemini 2 Hybrids are also occasionally used. The 329 has become one of the last TfL routes to use Arriva Enviro400s. These buses were once common, but are now used on just 4 Arriva routes. The 329's Enviro400s were new in 2012. They were ordered for route 144, and replaced ALX400s. These Enviro400s have been used on the 329 for over 13 years. Only a handful remain in service on the route. Some have been withdrawn, with some being used on rail replacement. The 329 runs frequently, every 6 to 12 minutes on all days of the week. The route serves Little Park Gardens, Enfield Town, Enfield Town Station, London Road, Park Avenue, Village Road, Church Street, Ridge Avenue, Green Lane, Winchmore Hill, Palmers Green, North Circular Road and Wood Green B Series Single Deckers In London, several types of BYD B series single deckers are used. These are commonly referred to as BYD B12s. BYD B10s are around 9.9 to 10.4 metres long. These buses are currently in use by Metroline on routes such as the 268. BYD B11s are around 10.9 metres long, not to be confused with BD11s. B11s are used on Arriva routes 166 and 312, around Croydon and Purley. BYD B12s are around 11.8 metres long, with no buses of this length in TfL service.
