Sam Lanin's Troubadours - The Girl Friend

Sam Lanin's Troubadours play "The Girl Friend" (Richard Rodgers-Lorenz Hart), featuring vocals by Irving Kaufman. Despite being recorded in April 1926, Crystalate held this one back for release until around the Summer of the following year! ?Julius "Jules" Berkin and another - trumpets/ trombone/ ?Chuck Muller and ?Alfie Evans - alto saxes/ Lucien Smith - tenor sax/ piano/ ?Tony "Toots" Colluci - banjo/ Joe Tarto - brass bass/ drums/ Irving Kaufman - vocals Unusually, both trumpeters solo on this recording after each other. The first is probably one of the many Red Nichols soundalikes working the studios around this time while the second may be Julius "Jules" Berkin. In any case, the second trumpeter plays a long solo on the Red Hotters recording of "Horses", another Lanin group.
