Wretched but Worthy, Romans 7:14-25 – September 27, 2026

The struggle between the flesh and the Spirit is real for every believer. In Romans 7:14–25, the Apostle Paul describes the painful conflict of wanting to do what is right while still confronting the sin nature that dwells within us. In this teaching, we look at why God’s law is holy, just, and good, yet cannot sanctify us through the power of the flesh. We examine Paul’s statement that “in my flesh nothing good dwells,” the importance of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life, and Samson as an example of the difference between being strengthened by the Spirit and attempting to operate in our own strength. We also look at the battle that takes place in the mind and practical ways to take ungodly thoughts captive: recognizing them through self-examination, confronting them according to the word of God, committing them to prayer, and saturating our minds with Scripture.
