Daishi Miguel-Tanaka is the Co-Founder and CEO of DoubleCheck Legal, a legal AI platform helping clients move at the speed of AI with the confidence of attorney review. Law firms across five states have joined DoubleCheck to reach a new pool of clients in the AI era. Daishi first saw the need firsthand at Stanford Law School, where he is a Knight-Hennessy Scholar researching how AI is reshaping the future of legal practice. In 2025, he partnered with his longtime friend Patrick, a technology marketing expert, to build DoubleCheck.
Before Stanford, Daishi worked at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and technology. He served as Director of Policy and Research at a major NGO in Washington, D.C., and helped draft and secure an $89 million technology contract with the City and County of San Francisco. He graduated from Harvard University with a Distinguished Senior Award.
In this conversation, Daishi and I sit down to talk about his blue-collar roots, the resilience shaped by his parents' immigration to the United States, and how that story of empowerment informs what he is building with DoubleCheck: an innovative legal model designed to give people across America greater access to the confidence and opportunity that legal services can provide.
