In 1970, Daimler-Benz acquired Hanomag-Henschel, gaining a small van that had made a name for itself under the name Matador, originally produced by Tempo. From that point onward, this compact van was offered as a #MercedesBenz model. 🚐✨ Weighing less than three tonnes, Hanomag-Henschel lightweight vans came equipped with either an Austin carburetor engine or a 2-liter 50 hp diesel engine by Daimler-Benz. By 1972, the range expanded to include a more powerful 2.2-liter 60 hp diesel engine. In January 1973, the design was updated with a longer front section, load-dependent braking force control, and a padded dash panel. The versatile front-wheel-drive van was available as a minibus or panel van with various heights, lengths, and track widths. Its affordability—priced at just 6,000 German marks—made it an attractive choice for local businesses like beverage suppliers. With 165,000 units sold, the Mercedes-Benz-branded version sold twice as many units as its predecessors under Tempo or Hanomag.
