Superman for the Atari 2600 was released in 1979, holds the historic title of being the very first superhero adventure video game ever made. Programmed by John Dunn, it pioneered multi-screen navigation and early open-ended gameplay. The player begins as Clark Kent, who must walk into a phone booth to transform into Superman. The core mission revolves around solving a Metropolis crisis across 20 interconnected wrap-around screens. Lex Luthor has blown up the Metropolis Memorial Bridge. Player must locate and carry the scattered bridge pieces back to repair it and hunt down Lex Luthor and his henchmen and carry them one by one to the Metropolis jail. Once the bridge is whole and the villains are jailed, Superman must go back to the phone booth, change into Clark Kent, and walk into the Daily Planet to finish the game. Superman can fly, has super strength to lift objects/villains, and possesses X-ray vision. Holding the fire button allows players to look into adjacent screens to track items and moving characters. Satellites fire kryptonite beams. Getting hit strips away Superman ability to fly or capture criminals. To cure Superman player must find and kiss Lois Lane on the map. There is no traditional score. The game tracks elapsed time counting up. The goal of a high-score run is actually to achieve the lowest time possible. Source: https://share.google/aimode/96l3EobJZ...
