PlayStation in HeII: God of War Laufey BLASTED over preorder rip off! PS6 spec price backfires!

The upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive God of War Laufey, the 2027 Santa Monica Studio spin-off starring Faye (Laufey), Kratos’ late wife and mother of Atreus, on a journey through the afterlife, has faced a wave of online backlash since its State of Play reveal, with critics questioning the decision to sideline the iconic God of War protagonist in favor of a female lead and scrutinizing character models and direction. That frustration intensified dramatically with the recent announcement of the God of War Laufey Collector’s Box (sometimes called the Collector’s Edition), priced at $149.99 / £130 / €150 and limited to one per person. The package includes a light-up resin Faye statue, a 51-card Oracle Deck with custom illustrations, and a mini artbook, but Sony has explicitly stated the game is sold separately—with no physical disc and no digital download code included. Fans have flooded social media calling the move greedy, comparing it directly to Rockstar’s expensive GTA 6 collector’s edition that also omitted the game, arguing that true collector’s editions historically bundled the title itself (as seen with God of War Ragnarök’s offerings that at least provided a voucher). Additional complaints target the statue’s roughly 20 cm size, USB-powered lighting, and facial resemblance quality, fueling accusations that premium pricing is outpacing value amid broader industry trends of discless futures and merch-only boxes. Meanwhile, the price of the PS6 is raising eyebrows across the gaming community after hardware leakers like KeplerL2 claimed that RAM and NAND storage alone exceed $680 per unit due to AI data-center demand shortages, with total bill-of-materials estimates climbing toward or past $1,000—potentially pushing the next PlayStation console’s retail price well above previous generations as Sony has signaled it will not heavily subsidize hardware losses. These twin controversies highlight ongoing debates over value, physical media, and affordability in AAA gaming as God of War Laufey approaches its February 2027 launch window.
