Featuring longtime Sinatra guitarist Tony Mottola, these intimate performances showcase two very different sides of Sinatra’s songbook, from Stephen Sondheim’s reflective ballad to the bossa nova sound of Antônio Carlos Jobim. Sinatra first recorded “Send in the Clowns” for his 1973 comeback album Ol’ Blue Eyes Is Back, later returning to the song for Trilogy: Past Present Future in 1980. “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars” is the English-language adaptation of Jobim’s Brazilian standard “Corcovado,” which Sinatra recorded with Jobim during their celebrated 1967 collaboration Francis Albert Sinatra & Antônio Carlos Jobim. Recorded during the inaugural concert at the 5,000-seat Altos de Chavón Amphitheater, Concert for the Americas captured Frank Sinatra in the early 1980s performing selections from across his career. Backed by an orchestra conducted by Vincent Falcone Jr., Sinatra’s 1982 performance brought together American standards, jazz, traditional pop and bossa nova in one of the defining filmed concerts of his later career.
