Helsinki Airport is Finland’s main international airport and an important hub for connections across Northern Europe. This late-evening walk follows the Schengen gate area from Gate 36 toward Gate 1, covering almost its entire length. At around 11 p.m. the airport was nearly empty, with only a few late-arriving passengers passing through and others waiting for midnight departures to Estonia and destinations elsewhere in Finland. Helsinki Airport is an exceptionally pleasant place to spend time, and that impression is not merely due to the countless times we have passed through it.
