One of the highlights of our father-son adventure in Glacier National Park was hiking the beautiful Grinnell Glacier Trail—a challenging but unforgettable journey through some of the park’s most breathtaking scenery. We started early at 7:00 a.m., leaving from Many Glacier Hotel, where we were staying. The trailhead was just a short distance away near the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake. With the morning light gloriously lighted up the surrounding peaks, we set off along the eastern shore of Swiftcurrent Lake before crossing the bridge toward beautiful Lake Josephine. From Lake Josephine, the trail gradually climbed through the forest and then opened into expansive alpine views. With every turn, the scenery became more dramatic—turquoise lakes far below, towering cliffs, waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides, and rugged peaks stretching across the horizon. As we climbed higher, the trail became steeper and more exposed, but the views made every step worthwhile. The landscape seemed to change with every few minutes of hiking. Wildflowers dotted the slopes, waterfalls poured from the cliffs, and the massive walls of the Many Glacier Valley surrounded us. Finally, after several hours of climbing, we reached Grinnell Glacier, such an incredible sight. The glacier rested beneath towering peaks, with a vivid turquoise glacial lake below and remnants of ice and snow scattered across the rugged landscape. Standing there with my son, surrounded by such immense wilderness, made all the effort feel insignificant. Noel could not resist to cold plunge this glacier lake! The hike was challenging, but every climb came with a reward. There were plenty of moments when we stopped simply to take in the scenery—and to appreciate the fact that we were experiencing it together. After approximately 11.2 miles and 2,129 feet of elevation gain, we completed the hike in about 8 hours. It was a long day on the trail, but also one of the most memorable days of our father-son trip. Grinnell Glacier wasn't just a hike. It was an adventure we shared—one that gave us unforgettable views and memories we'll carry long after the trail ends. Background music credit: Scott Holmes – Kiss the Sky
