Luke | The Man Who Never Saw Jesus but Wrote His Story

He wasn't one of the Twelve. He never walked the dusty roads of Galilee with Jesus. Yet Luke wrote one of the most detailed accounts of Jesus' life in the New Testament. So where did he get his information? This documentary follows the extraordinary story of Luke the physician — travelling companion of the Apostle Paul, careful investigator, and the traditional author of the Gospel of Luke and Acts. At the beginning of his Gospel, Luke tells us that the story had been handed down by eyewitnesses and that he carefully investigated everything from the beginning. But who were those eyewitnesses? We follow the clues through the unique memories surrounding Mary and the birth of Jesus, the experiences of Peter, Luke's journeys with Paul, the mysterious “we” passages in Acts, and Luke's arrival in Jerusalem and Caesarea — where he entered the world of some of Christianity's earliest witnesses. Could Luke have spoken with Mary? What might he have learned from Peter, James, Philip and other early believers? And how did a physician who never witnessed the ministry of Jesus eventually become an eyewitness to the spread of Christianity itself? This is the story of how Luke entered the history he was investigating — and helped preserve an orderly account that has been read for nearly two thousand years.
