Two days of motion hearings surrounding a stand your ground defense are expected to kick off today for Ashley Benefield, the former ballet dancer accused of murdering her husband, Douglas Benefield. Detectives say Ashley went to a neighbor’s house in September 2020 claiming Douglas attacked her, so she shot him. However, during the investigation, it was discovered Douglas most likely had his back to Ashley when he was shot.
