Lot 170: https://bid.richmondauctions.com/lots...
1 of 859 Boss 429s built for 1969.
This is one of the most original Boss 429s you'll find today. KK 1877 is a Black Jade SportsRoof with the Deluxe interior, a 4-speed and a 3.91 Traction-Lok. It still has its original numbers-matching engine, transmission and third member, and has just 13,670 original miles. It was authenticated by Boss 429 specialist Lyle Essick. His report confirms that the buck tag on the radiator support, the dash ID plate and the left door ID plate all carry the correct VIN. You can still see the original Kar Kraft chalk markings and hood rotation number "83" from when these cars were built.
This is an original paint car, and a paint meter shows thin factory paint over most of the body. Only three or four small spots were blended for minor scratches. All the sheet metal is original to the car, including the front fenders with their correct rolled lips and date codes, and the front valance. It's completely rust free, and the factory pinch weld blackout is still on the rockers and trunk drop-offs, which almost never survives. The details are what set this car apart. It has the original stainless capped lug nuts, which are very rare today, plus the Dearborn-only radiator cap, the original battery, the KKX front spindles and the original Magnum wheels and caps. The engine oil cooler and air cleaner snorkel are original and correct, and so are the door sweeps, the Deluxe seat belts and the trunk mat with its proper 7.75 B.F. Goodrich spare, fill bottle, jack and lug wrench. Even the headlight aimers are still in their original plastic bag.
The car comes with a large group of correct original parts that were taken off. These include the rare C9ZF-D distributor, the dated C9ZE-F fan, the smog and power steering assemblies, the shifter and linkage, the belts and hoses, the numbered fuel pump and the correct master cylinder. There's also an original front spoiler that was never installed. Original paperwork comes with it, and the appraiser believes the original build sheet is likely still under the carpet. An untouched, numbers-matching, original paint Boss 429 like this is about as good as it gets.
Report available upon request. MILEAGE: 13,670. VIN: 9F02Z198841.
Summary
Lyle Essick calls this a very nice, original-condition 1969 Boss 429 with what he believes are 13,000 original miles. It still has its original engine, transmission and third member (rear end), and he says there are not many like it left.
Specs: Body 63B (SportsRoof, Deluxe), Color C (Black Jade), Axle V (3.91 Traction-Lok), Trans 6 (4-speed).
Paint: original paint car. A paint meter shows thin paint over a large portion of the car. Three or four spots were blended for minor scratches and dings: the right-hand door area (side ridge down), between the taillights, and some blending on the left quarter.
Body: rust-free and solid. All sheet metal is original to the car, including the front fenders (correct rolled lips, date codes on the tops) and the front valance (correct rolled lips). The original pinch-weld blackout below the rockers and on the trunk drop-offs is still on the car.
Numbers and ID: numbers-matching engine block and transmission. The radiator-support buck tag, dash ID plate and left door ID plate all carry the correct VIN. Kar Kraft chalk markings and the hood rotation number ("83") are still visible.
Notable original pieces: original stainless capped lug nuts (he calls these very rare), Dearborn-only radiator cap, original battery, KKX front spindles, original Magnum wheels and caps, correct Deluxe interior and Deluxe seat belts, original trunk mat with the proper 7.75 B.F. Goodrich spare, fill bottle, jack and lug wrench, and headlight aimers still in their original plastic bag.
Parts that come with the car but are not installed: original belts and radiator hoses, correctly numbered fuel pump, original smog and power steering assemblies, correct shifter and linkage, original dated fan (C9ZE-F), the rare C9ZF-D distributor, the original front spoiler (never installed), and the correct master cylinder. Essick says all of these are correct.
Issues noted: the master cylinder on the car is wrong (the correct one comes with it); the correct Autolite shocks are on the front but not the rear; he saw the original H-pipe but no other exhaust pipes; and there is a mouse hole in the headliner.
Paperwork: original paperwork is present. He thinks an original build sheet is most likely under the floor carpet, but it has not been checked.
