River Dayi overflowed after a reported nine-hour overnight downpour in Hohoe, Ghana’s Volta Region, on September 27–28, 2026. Residents described waking to water entering their homes, with little time to move belongings. In an October 1 update, Hohoe’s MP cited preliminary NADMO figures of about 5,140 people displaced and 412 houses affected. “Affected” does not mean all 412 houses were destroyed. This episode follows accounts of the flooding, temporary shelter, early recession in some communities and relief. MP Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo attributed continuing inflow to rain in neighbouring Togo; the reporting reviewed here contains no independent river measurements establishing that cause. Regional NADMO reported water receding in some communities and some residents returning. Emergency LEAP support was announced, and President Mahama presented relief items on October 2. A separate pledge of 5,000 cement bags had not been confirmed delivered by the factual cutoff. Information reflects reporting reviewed through 2026-10-02 16:12:46 UTC. Flood conditions, damage assessments and household needs can change. The 5,140 displaced residents and 412 affected houses were preliminary figures for October 1 cited by the MP from NADMO; “affected” does not mean “destroyed.” The explanation involving rain in Togo is attributed to the MP and was not independently established with river measurements in the reporting reviewed. #HohoeFloods #GhanaFloods #RiverDayi
