This video is all about how to troll for walleyes using large planer boards. We had so much great footage and so many tips, we put together a second video. My friends Chip and Sara went walleye fishing with me on Lake Erie near Huron, Ohio. Chip set us up with his program using Big planer boards instead of my usual inline planer board setup for walleye. Using big boards lets you run multiple lines at the same time and can cover a lot more water with a wide path. Big boards run at least 50 feet out from the boat. We ran them over 100 ft. After you catch a fish you just feed out the other lines to make room for the newest line to feed out.
Walleye trolling in the fall on Lake Erie is a great program as the fish are heading back towards the Lake Erie Islands, Vermilion and Huron from the deeper waters of Eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. Through the years he has worn many hats including time as a fishing guide, boat salesman, TV host, outdoor writer, product designer, tournament fisherman, speaker, radio host and podcaster to name a few.
Ross fishes ice-out to ice-up on the Great Lakes. He spends the majority of the year walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s Western and Central basins.
