Add the tomato paste and cook for a few minutes. Then add the carrots and potatoes, if desired, followed by water. The rice is soaked beforehand. Build a wood fire and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer gently until the chicken is cooked. Add salt to taste. When the chicken is fully cooked and the liquid has reduced, add the soaked rice.
