EXCLUSIVE 4K DRONE FOOTAGE of the newly constructed HS2 Saltley Viaduct being transported and slid into its final position over the existing railway in Birmingham! 🚧
Between 29–31 August 2026, the enormous new viaduct was successfully moved and manoeuvred into position using giant Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) — one of the latest major construction milestones on the HS2 project in Birmingham.
🎥 This is the complete operation from the air, captured in stunning 4K aerial footage by JMPS MEDIA, giving you a unique view of the scale, precision and complexity of this incredible civil engineering operation.
🚧 HS2 SALTLEY VIADUCT — THE SLIDE
The newly constructed Saltley Viaduct has now been successfully moved into position over the existing railway.
Using massive SPMTs, the structure was carefully transported, manoeuvred and aligned into its final position with incredible precision.
From close-up aerial views to huge panoramic shots, this video captures the full scale of the HS2 Saltley Viaduct slide from above.
🏗️ WHY IS HS2 REBUILDING SALTLEY VIADUCT?
Saltley Viaduct is located approximately 3.2km (2 miles) north-east of Birmingham City Centre.
The existing bridge does not provide enough clearance for the new HS2 high-speed railway as it approaches the future Birmingham Curzon Street station.
A completely new viaduct is therefore being constructed to accommodate HS2 and support Birmingham’s future transport infrastructure.
The replacement structure will be approximately:
⬆️ 2 metres higher than the existing bridge
↔️ 4.5 metres wider than the original structure
Much of the new viaduct has been constructed offline alongside the existing structure, helping reduce disruption and minimise work around the existing road network and utilities.
