Located just outside Erbil in the Kurdistan Region, Ankawa is one of the oldest continuously inhabited Christian towns in Iraq and has long been a center of Chaldean culture, faith, and community. Known for its churches, schools, and deep-rooted traditions, Ankawa became a refuge for thousands of displaced Christian families fleeing violence and persecution across Iraq, especially during the ISIS invasion in 2014.
