Liberace bought a dead movie star's bed, carried it into his house in Palm Springs and named a guest room after him. When he died in that house in February 1987, his family offered it to the city as a museum. The city said no. Three years later, about 3,000 of his things went under the hammer. Walk through the Cloisters room by room, from the gate on North Belardo Road to the bedroom beside his chapel, where the official story of his death fell apart within a week. Inside: the Spanish hacienda that was an eleven-bedroom inn when he bought it for $185,000, the Rudolph Valentino Room and why that bed mattered to him, the themed suites and the 27 dogs, the little villa where his mother lived across the courtyard, the 7,000 green-painted bricks hidden under the floor of another of his houses, the chapel he dedicated to Saint Anthony, the last season from Radio City to his final days, what the Riverside County coroner announced six days after the death, and what became of the house, the gates and the auction in April 1990. The Cloisters is a private home today and has been remodelled. Where the sources disagree on dates, room counts or what a room looked like, the video says so. #Liberace #PalmSprings #CelebrityHomes #HollywoodHistory #RoomByRoom #Piano Homes of Legends is an independent channel and is not affiliated with the Liberace estate or any person or property shown.
