At Camp Crossville, on the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee, a German officer held there as a prisoner of war later wrote about what the camp kitchen put out on Sunday afternoons, coffee and cake, made under a German kitchen supervisor. His name was Hans Albert Smolinski Albertson, and of those Sunday afternoons he wrote a single line. "Naturally, we could not write home such extravagances, nor could we tell that to our prison guards!"
