Violence against healthcare workers: A nurse’s story

St. Joe’s nurse Natasha describes violent situations she experiences daily working on the nephrology unit, where many patients stay long-term due to chronic kidney issues. Both patients and their visitors have physically and verbally assaulted her on the job, which impacts her wellbeing inside and outside of work. Her obvious passion for providing care to patients keeps her coming back, as well as support from colleagues and loved ones. Natasha has said some days, nine out of 10 of her interactions with patients can be violent – and it’s not okay.
