Founded by the Phoenicians as Malaka, its name comes from Mālk, meaning “salt”. Over time, Roman and Muslim civilizations shaped the city, while its strategic port became an important gateway to the Mediterranean. Located in southern Spain on the Costa del Sol, Málaga is one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations.
