I Believe (Help My Unbelief)
The Machine treats doubt and uncertainty like proof that something is wrong or unresolved. But faith begins deepening when you realize trust can still remain present even while questions, fear, and uncertainty continue to exist.
Reflections on Trusting Even While Doubt Still Exists
One of the biggest misconceptions I had about faith was believing it meant the complete absence of doubt. I thought trust only counted if it felt emotionally certain all the time. If fear appeared, uncertainty remained, or questions resurfaced, part of me assumed it meant I was failing spiritually or emotionally somehow. But healing slowly revealed something far more human. Faith and doubt can exist together. That realization changed everything for me because the Machine constantly treated uncertainty like a problem to eliminate completely. It demanded absolute clarity before allowing peace. But life rarely works that way. Questions remain sometimes. Emotions fluctuate. The nervous system still reacts. Fear can still speak even after enormous healing has taken place. And yet trust can still remain underneath all of it.
That distinction became deeply important during this stage of the journey. There were moments where I genuinely felt held, grounded, and connected to something deeper than fear. But there were also moments where old uncertainty resurfaced and part of me still struggled internally. The Machine tried using those moments as proof that nothing had really changed: “See? You’re still afraid.” But slowly, I began realizing something powerful. The presence of doubt did not erase the presence of faith. In many ways, real trust became most visible precisely when certainty was unavailable. Anyone can feel calm when everything is clear and predictable. But faith revealed itself in moments where the future still felt uncertain and yet something deeper inside me continued leaning toward trust anyway. That felt incredibly different from the old patterns of control. The Machine demanded guarantees before allowing peace. Faith allowed peace to coexist with unanswered questions. Not perfectly every moment, but genuinely enough to change the emotional direction of my life.
Looking back, I can see how much pressure I once placed on myself to feel spiritually “certain” all the time. But healing softened that pressure. I stopped expecting myself to become emotionally invulnerable before trust could be real. Instead, I began learning how to remain open even while uncertainty still existed. That openness felt deeply human. Because underneath all the healing, I was still a person navigating life imperfectly. Fear could still appear. Old conditioning could still echo. Some days still felt harder than others. But now those moments no longer automatically destroyed my relationship to trust. The doubts no longer defined everything.
That’s what this song represents for me. Not perfect certainty. Not the elimination of all fear. But the quiet willingness to continue trusting even while parts of me still wrestle sometimes. And strangely, that kind of faith feels deeper and more honest than the version I used to imagine. Because it is no longer built on emotional perfection. It is built on relationship, surrender, and the growing realization that I do not need complete certainty in order to remain held.
