West Kalimantan, Uncharted | 6-Night Field Expedition pt. 2 - Heart of Borneo

This is part of my ongoing mission to document the sounds of Borneo's most pristine and untouched wilderness — reaching deeper into the Heart of Borneo with each expedition. While studying terrain maps of West Kalimantan's interior, I came across an unusual limestone cliff system rising from completely unlogged primary jungle in the Muller Mountain Range. Nothing marked on any map. Nobody I spoke to knew anything about this place. 35 kilometers. 6 nights. We built ladders up 20-meter cliffs, crossed rivers on fallen tree trunks, constructed a bridge over a 30-meter canyon, and navigated a complex maze of cliff terrain — the most technically demanding expedition I've done so far. Two local men from the last village before the mountains came with me. One was the village chief. The other — I called him Rambo — was the most capable person in the wilderness I have ever encountered. Along the way I came across something unexpected — ancient rock paintings on the cliff faces.
