70) The end of our Pacific crossing and arrival at Hiva Oa

As we continue our passage across the Pacific Ocean we see so many beautiful sunrises, sunsets, star-filled nights. The days tick by and the boobies become fewer. We have enjoyed watching them squabble, hunt, preen and balance as they hitch a ride. Our last 2 leave us on day 19 and we do miss the entertainment they provided. Some calm days but more days with big swell making sleeping and cooking more difficult. We cross time zones and change the clocks as day drifts into night and back again. On the morning of day 31, after 4082 miles we finally see land. Very pleased with our progress, we had expected the passage to take longer, but fabulous currents helped us move faster. We anchor near Atuona on Hiva Oa and the smell of vegetation is almost overwhelming. Having set up Big Jimmy (our tender) we go ashore and take our first tentative steps on land. It feels as if it is moving and we get about 100 meters before we have to sit down! The locals are lovely and help us get to the town to check in, shop and explore.
