EXPLORER is the world’s first medical imaging scanner from UC Davis that can capture a 3D picture of the whole human body at once. Now, it has produced its first scans and the developers expect the technology will have countless applications, from improving diagnostics to tracking disease progression to researching new drug therapies. Within this video, the EXPLORER image displays glucose metabolism throughout the entire human body.

Video Description: A 3D rendering shows someone lying face-up on a metal stretcher that glides into a long, cylindrical structure, presumably a full-body PET scanner. This cuts to b-roll of an actual person getting a full-body PET scan. Ramsey Badawi, Chief of Nuclear Medicine at UC Davis Health, admits that this idea ,was once ridiculed. Simon Cherry, UC Davis Professor of Biomedical Engineering, declares that the concept has finally been realized through tireless work. Clips of moving black and white scans, large, flatscreen computers, and concentrated scientists fill the screen. The video closes off with b-roll of the actual EXPLORER, exhibiting an off-white, cylindrical structure that glows blue on the inside.
