After accumulating and testing 317 suppressors, it's time for one of our biggest 5.56 suppressor comparisons yet.
I'm joined by Eric from East Valley Tactical as we take a huge selection of my favorite 5.56 suppressors and put them head-to-head to answer one question:
What is the best 5.56 suppressor in my collection right now?
We're using matched 11.5-inch SIG piston rifles, PMC 62-grain M855 ammunition, and listening approximately 10–12 yards away. Most comparisons are done blind so Eric and I don't know which suppressor we're hearing.
Our baseline is the Stealth Additive Works TISHA 5.56, one of my favorite 5.56 suppressors because it combines excellent sound performance, extremely low back pressure, compact size and light weight. Every contender has to match or beat the TISHA to advance.
And there are a LOT of contenders.
We test suppressors from Stealth Additive Works, Griffin Armament, Dead Air, HUXWRX, Knight's Armament, Ridgeback Defense, Dillon Rifle Company, JK Armament, PTR, Otter Creek Labs, Wolfpack Armory, Blackbird Defense, Exigent Defense, Rampart Range Suppression, Strategic Sciences and more.
Some major surprises emerge.
The Griffin Armament DUAL-LOK HRT-556 produces excellent sound and a particularly deep tone while maintaining relatively low back pressure.
The Dead Air CT5 again proves why it's one of my favorite compact hard-use 5.56 suppressors.
The Ridgeback Defense Rhodie 6K and Rhodie 6 Titanium get extremely close to the TISHA.
The Blackbird Defense F556 is another extremely close competitor.
The Southern Arizona Rifle Company Coyote 6 continues to impress with its combination of titanium construction, low back pressure, low weight and excellent sound.
We also test the Otter Creek Labs Infinity 5.56 with different end-cap configurations and hear a noticeable difference between the vented and more restrictive setups.
Eventually, we narrow this enormous field down to four major contenders:
Coyote 6
Griffin DUAL-LOK HRT-556
Dillon Rifle Company 5.56
Exigent Defense Fireteam 5.56
Then we stop comparing everything against the TISHA and put the finalists directly against each other.
The HRT-556 advances over the Coyote in our sound comparison. The Fireteam narrowly advances over the Dillon Rifle Company suppressor.
That leaves the championship:
Fireteam 5.56 vs HRT-556.
After repeated comparisons, the Exigent Defense Fireteam 5.56 wins our conventional suppressor sound comparison. To our ears, the Fireteam is slightly quieter, while the HRT has an excellent deep tone and substantially lower back pressure.
But we're not finished.
I saved the Strategic Sciences MFMD for last because it's a very different system with some significant compromises in cost, weight and application—but its performance has consistently impressed me.
We put the MFMD against our new champion.
The MFMD wins, and the difference is noticeable.
So this test produces two important results:
Conventional suppressor sound winner: Exigent Defense Fireteam 5.56
Overall sound winner: Strategic Sciences MFMD
But this video also demonstrates why there isn't one universally “best” 5.56 suppressor.
Sound, tone, back pressure, flash, weight, length, mounting system, durability, first-round pop and host weapon all matter. Several suppressors in this test were so close that we needed identical rifles only inches apart and shots seconds apart to distinguish them.
That's why we continue testing these suppressors across different hosts and applications rather than relying on one number.

This is comfortably under the 5,000-character ceiling while still giving YouTube plenty of natural SEO language around best 5.56 suppressor, 5.56 suppressor comparison, low back pressure, AR-15 suppressor, suppressor testing, TISHA, HRT-556, Fireteam, and MFMD.
